Writing About Our Experience

Sharon Osenga asked Janet Stoeger Wilke and me to write for our system's newsletter: http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/system/newsletters/meridian122007012008.pdf.  In addition, I was able to get into our local paper in the People in Business section, http://www.theindependent.com/stories/12162007/bus_people16.shtml.  Any other interesting stories that have come about as a result of our get-together?  Take care,

Thinking outside the Borders: Library Leadership in a World Community Set for October 22–26

An institute on international library leadership will be held this fall at the Nebraska Library Commission. Eighteen librarians from Nebraska, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, and El Salvador will attend the Thinking outside the Borders Institute, a National Leadership Grant activity funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The international visitors from Central and South America will attend discussion sessions in Lincoln, and the annual conference of the Nebraska Library Association/Nebraska Educational Media Association (NLA/NEMA) in Kearney.

Announcing the Institute, Nebraska Library Commission Director Rod Wagner said, “The Nebraska Library Commission is pleased to host the Thinking Outside the Borders Institute. Nebraska librarians and their counterparts from Central and South American countries will experience a unique chance to explore and exchange ideas from their different perspectives and experiences.”

What to Wear?!  What to Pack?!

The weather in Lincoln this time of year is changeable.  It's likely to be much cooler in the evening.  See the National Weather Service forecasts.

Business casual attire will be suitable for all our activities.  We haven't planned any outdoor activities.  On Thursday, we'll be riding on a bus for a couple of hours, and then walking quite a bit at the NLA/NEMA Conference--that means comfortable shoes to me.

Mary Ann Mavrinac (one of our speakers on Tuesday, October 23) is one busy woman!  see this article:

News you can use about the Institute:

If you're driving to Lincoln on Monday, October 22, you can park your car at the Cornhusker Hotel.  The Institute funds will cover parking.  Keep track of your mileage, too.  You can receive reimbursement for mileage to and from your home and the Lincoln Institute site.
